Welcome to the Website of the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers

This page will be updated on a daily basis, to provide a convenient news service to scarce & rare birds found within the County Nottinghamshire.

The Sightings page and @Nottsbirders Twitter feed are intended to alert birders to scarcer species that they might be interested in seeing within the County.

Records of more common species are still very important, but should preferably be submitted to the county Recorder Andy Hall. These records will then be added to the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers data-base, to be included in the monthly Newsletter and Annual Reports.

None of these reports have been verified or checked by the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers' Records Committee.

Please report your Latest Sightings to: nottsbirders@gmail.com or @NottsBirders on the Twitter feed.

Please remember to submit all sightings to Andy Hall each month, using the Excel spreadsheet that can be downloaded from the Recording page.

A full list of these species can be found on the Recording page. Red are species of interest. Bold GREY are unconfirmed sightings or a species of unknown origin.

Due to Nottinghamshire now in tier 3 restrictions for Corvid-19, it has been decided to once again revert back to weekly updates to discourage social gatherings.

Weekly updates will be put out each Sunday evening and will continue until government restrictions are lifted.

Hopefully daily updates will resume in early December.

Starling Murmurations.

We currently have two very large Starling murmurations in the County at Langford Lowfields and the Netherfield Lagoons.

The Langford Lowfields is the largest murmuration attracting 10’s of thousands although it's not consistent, so depending on the evening you can see between 5,000 to 18'000 with the possibility of larger numbers if you a lucky. The murmuration is mostly over Phases 2 and 3 and has been for at least the last week, therefore the best place to see it is from the end of the seasonal trail where it opens up into the flat area with the picnic bench.

The Netherfield murmuration is now numbering between 10,000 - 12,000 and is best viewed from the path between the Slurry Lagoon and the Deep Pit, although it would be viewable from anywhere on site.

Anyone wishing to view either of these spectacles is advised to arrive on site at around 15:00.
