Welcome to the Website of the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers

This page will be updated on a daily basis, to provide a convenient news service to scarce & rare birds found within the County Nottinghamshire.

The Sightings page and @Nottsbirders Twitter feed are intended to alert birders to scarcer species that they might be interested in seeing within the County.

Records of more common species are still very important, but should preferably be submitted to the county Recorder Keith Rainford Bullfinch194@gmail.com These records will then be added to the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers data-base, to be included in the monthly Newsletter and Annual Reports.

None of these reports have been verified or checked by the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers' Records Committee.

 

"Records of certain sensitive species may not appear here during the breeding season, unless publicised by site managers or where records relate to what are likely to be passage migrants or wandering non-breeding individuals rather than breeders. Species that this generally applies to include (but are not necessarily limited to): Avocet, Bearded Tit, Bittern, Black-necked Grebe, Black Redstart, Cetti's Warbler. Goshawk (except from Welbeck Raptor Watchpoint), Honey-buzzard (except from Welbeck Raptor Watchpoint), Marsh Harrier, Mediterranean Gull, Nightingale, Peregrine (except for Nottingham City Centre), Raven, Red Kite and Woodlark (except for Sherwood Forest NNR/Budby Common). For a range of other species, we will not include specific breeding information - this includes Barn Owl, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Little Ringed Plover, Nightjar, Turtle Dove and Willow Tit. Nevertheless, please submit your sightings anyway."

Attenborough Nature Reserve - WOOD SANDPIPER [adult, Clifton Pit then relocated to Ridge and Furrow 05:58 - 16:08 at least], 3 Cattle Egret [low over Clifton Pit towards Coneries, 19:33]; also Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Green Sandpiper, 2 Wigeon].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Cattle Egret [adult summer plumage, Coneries this evening], Green Sandpiper [Ridge and Furrow].

Lound [Idle Valley NR] - OSPREY [Bellmoor Lake, this evening], 13 Black-tailed Godwit [Lower Sheep Fields].

Langford Lowfields - Red-crested Pochard, 6 Teal, 16 Little Egret, 3 Great White Egret [including one in breeding condition], Cattle Egret [perched in bush in Phase II then flew north over Phase I around 08:30] Cuckoo, Ruff [male with black mane and white chest] Black-tailed Godwit.

Monday 24th June

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Cattle Egret [Coneries, 18:20], Great White Egret, Green Sandpiper, Cuckoo [early morning].

Idle Washlands - 4 Great White Egret, 38 Little Egret, Whooper Swan, 53 Pochard, Shelduck [pair with 8 young], 2 Oystercatcher, Dunlin, c.350-400 Sand Martin [Slaynes Lane, late afternoon].

Welbeck Raptor Watchpoint - Honey Buzzard [12:30].

Styrrup - White Stork [unringed adult, again in field north of the Golf Course 05:30 - 07:20 but no further sign after].

Sunday 23rd June

Styrrup - White Stork [unringed adult, in field between the Golf Course and Common Lane, 12:43 - 13:36 when it flew high over Harworth; again in the same field north of the Golf Course, 17:25 - 21:00 then flew off towards S.York's].

Besthorpe NR - Black-tailed Godwit [Mons Pool, 19:25]; Cuckoo heard.

Annesley Pit Top [Annesley and Newstead CP] - Garden Warbler, 20+ Sand Martin, 3 House Martin, 4 Lapwing, Reed Bunting.

Friday 21st June

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Common Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper, single fledged BH Gull [Clifton Pit], 3 Cuckoo.

Lound [Idle Valley NR] - 7 Common Tern, Cuckoo [heard calling near Chainbridge Scrape], 4 Egyptian Goose, Garden Warbler, 2 Hobby, 2 Little Egret, c.50 Pochard and a Grass Snake crossing the 'road' near Chainbridge Scrape.

Thursday 20th June

Idle Washlands - 6 Great White Egret, 8 Little Egret, 5 Heron, 100+Mute Swan, Cuckoo, numerous Reed Warbler [Slaynes/Hagg Lane].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - 3 Little Egret, Cuckoo [this afternoon].

Holme Pierrepont - Gull-billed Tern [adult flew low over Blotts Pit towards the A52 Pit 17:43; again circling over Blotts Pit before landing in the front of the hide, 20:29 - 21:26 when it flew north with Black-headed Gulls]; also 2 Black-tailed Godwit [Blotts Pit, midday].

Beckingham Marshes RSPB - OSPREY [flew along the Trent at Gainsborough then headed over the flood-back towards Beckingham Marshes, 17:35].

Lound [Idle Valley NR] - Cattle Egret [adult in channel by reed-bed from Chainbridge Lane 16:07; two flew north over Chainbridge Scrape, 20:20].
