Welcome to the Website of the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers

This page will be updated on a daily basis, to provide a convenient news service to scarce & rare birds found within the County Nottinghamshire.

The Sightings page and @Nottsbirders Twitter feed are intended to alert birders to scarcer species that they might be interested in seeing within the County.

Records of more common species are still very important, but should preferably be submitted to the county Recorder Keith Rainford Bullfinch194@gmail.com These records will then be added to the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers data-base, to be included in the monthly Newsletter and Annual Reports.

None of these reports have been verified or checked by the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers' Records Committee.

Edwalton - 8 WAXWING [Nutcutts Garden Centre feeding on berries/drinking from puddles in the car park, 14:45 - 16:00 then flew off north].

Bothamsall - c.20 WAXWING [Normanton Road, 14:13].

Holme Pierrepont - 2 SMEW [adult drake/2 redheads] GREATER SCAUP [1st-winter drake A52 Pit, late morning], Starling [murmuration visible from A52 this evening, estimate 3/5,000].

Lound [Idle Valley NR] - Ferruginous Duck [drake still present on Neatholme Pit, 09:50].

West Bridgford - Cattle Egret [Regatta Way in horse paddocks, 09:48].

Sutton in Ashfield - 32 WAXWING [Huthwaite Road, 09:30 - midday at least].

Gedling - WAXWING [Perlethorpe Crescent, single on Rowan this morning then flew south].

Sherwood Forest NNR - Great Grey Shrike [Budby Common 09:10 - 11:23 then lost from view when flushed by walkers].

Pleasleyhill - 11 WAXWING [in ash tree along Sampson's Lane, this evening].

Lound [Idle Valley NR] - Ferruginous Duck [drake still present on Neatholme Pit, 15:20], 100+Pink-footed Geese [west Chainbridge Lane, 16:25], GREATER SCAUP [1st-winter again Neatholme Scrape, 12:59].

Netherfield - 2 CASPIAN GULL [1st-winter and 2nd winter Enva Recycling Centre, mid-afternoon]; also Leucistic Herring Gull.

Sutton in Ashfield - c.40 WAXWING [Huthwaite Road, 09:30 - 13:45 at least].

Stanford Hills - 6 Red Kite [two just west of Leake Lane 14:10; four more approaching from Zouch above Midland Mainline].

Lound [Idle Valley NR] - Ferruginous Duck [drake still present on Neatholme Pit, mid-afternoon]; also Marsh Harrier, Great White Egret.

Holme Pierrepont - 2 SMEW [drake and redhead, A52 Pit]; also 1w GREATER SCAUP.

Idle Stop – 500+ Pink-footed Geese, 1+ WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, Jack Snipe, 4 Cattle Egret [with cattle along lane east of old quarry workings junction]. Todays Doncaster Birding

Lound [Idle Valley NR] - Ferruginous Duck [drake still present on Neatholme Pit, this morning], GREATER SCAUP [1st-winter drake, Neatholme Pit], SMEW [redhead Neatholme Fen], 100+Pink-footed Geese [heading south-east over Clayworth Common].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - 2 Pintail, 35 Goldeneye, Otter [Clifton Pit, this afternoon].

Holme Pierrepont - WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE [juvenile again Blotts Pit].

Scrooby - 3 WAXWING [briefly Manor Rd then flew towards Mill Lane].

Colston Gate - 2 Red Kite.

South Muskham - SMEW [1st-winter drake A1 Pits].

Idle Waslands -Lesser Scaup [probable 1w drake still present Slaynes Lane south, this morning]; also 1w GREATER SCAUP, 15 Cattle Egret [flew north-east]. The site remains inaccessible due to extensive flooding.

Teversal - c.140 Pink-footed Geese north-east, 12:40].

Pleasleyhill - 3 WAXWING [in rowans north of Moorhaigh Lane, 10:32].

Retford - 2 Great White Egret [in horse fields near Retford].

Wollaton Park - 2 Goosander, 2 Ring-necked Parakeet, Raven, 10 Siskin.

Sunday 17th December

Idle Waslands - Lesser Scaup [probable 1w drake, along Slaynes Lane this morning and present since 12th; identification not confirmed due to viewing problems as site remains flooded and is inaccessible from public access points]; also 81 Gadwall, 480 Wigeon, 73 Mallard, 38 Teal, 196 Pochard, 284 Tufted Duck, 2 Goldeneye, 506 Coot, 225 Lapwing, 68 Dunlin [Slaynes/Newington/Unit 2].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - 6 Pintail, 350 Wigeon, 50 Goosander [Clifton Pit].

Bunny - 2 Red Kite, Raven [over Allotments this afternoon].

Friday 15th December

Holme Pierrepont - 1w GREATER SCAUP, 2 SMEW [still present on the A52 Pit], WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE [juv, again on Blotts Pit].

Beeston - 5 WAXWING [five Lilac Grove this morning, sadly one bird was picked up dead after been hit by a car; four still present early afternoon at least].

Lound [Idle Valley NR] - Marsh Harrier [female/imm], 2 Great White Egret [Neatholme]; also 20+ mixed Redpoll and Siskin flock.

Attenborough Nature Reserve - 10+Pintail, 60 Goosander [Clifton Pit].

Budby Pumping Station - Lapland Bunting [over west, 09:20].
