This page will be updated on a daily basis, to provide a convenient news service to scarce & rare birds found within the County Nottinghamshire.

The Sightings page and @Nottsbirders Twitter feed are intended to alert birders to scarcer species that they might be interested in seeing within the County.

Records of more common species are still very important, but should preferably be submitted to the county Recorder Keith Rainford Bullfinch194@gmail.com These records will then be added to the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers data-base, to be included in the monthly Newsletter and Annual Reports.

None of these reports have been verified or checked by the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers' Records Committee.

Clifton Pastures - HEN HARRIER [ring-tail showing well on and off 12:30 - 15:00 at least].

Lound [Idle Valley Nature Reserve] - Little Gull [probable adult, Bellmoor Lake this afternoon], Smew [redhead], 9 Pintail [Neatholme Fen, 11:30], Lesser Spotted Woodpecker [Linghurst Wood, mid-morning].

Colwick CP - SCAUP [female, north-east corner of the Trout Lake].

Hodsock - 300 Brambling, 150 House Sparrow, 60 Stock Dove.

Hoveringham - 2 CASPIAN GULL [adult and 3rd-winter, Railway Pit roost], 55 Goosander [Railway Pit], 4 Whooper Swan [2 heading west 12:25, 2 on Sailing Lake, 12:40 at least], Stonechat [Sailing Lake].

Langford Lowfields - 2 Ring-necked Duck [female type still present on west side of Phase 2, 12:38], Great Northern Diver [still Deep Pit early morning], 2 Peregrine [on the ground Phase 3 area], Marsh Harrier [female hunting over Phase 3 area], Brambling male near car park].

Besthorpe NR - 7 Whooper Swan [Meering, in the fields north of the Notts Trust reserve with 60+ Mute Swan].

Collingham Pits - Great White Egret [Wharf Pit and then Mons Pool], 12 Curlew [by R Trent opposite Carlton on Trent], 2 Pink footed Geese [with the feral geese flock again by R Trent], Green Sandpiper [Northcroft], Pintail [pair Ferry Farm]; Also escaped male White cheeked Pintail at Ferry Farm.

Netherfield Lagoons - CASPIAN GULL [2nd-winter, still Enva Recycling Centre]; also 30+Redpoll.

Tuesday 21st December

Kilvington Lakes - Short-eared Owl [late afternoon]; also 12 Shelduck, 2 Argentatus Herring Gull [West Lake].

Sherwood Forest NNR - 120 Pink-footed Geese [Budby South Forest, over in three skeins]; also Whooper Swans heard going over but not seen.

Langford Lowfields - 2 Ring-necked Duck [female type still on west side of Phase 2, mid-afternoon]; also 4 BEARDED TIT.

Calverton - Merlin [male sat on hedge at top of Georges Lane, 14:00].

Holme Pierrepont - Smew [adult drake, still A52 Pit, early afternoon]; also CASPIAN GULL [2nd-winter].

Idle Washlands - 8 Pintail, 5 Great White Egret, c.70 Golden Plover, c.20 Snipe, c.30 Black-tailed Godwit, c.30 Dunlin, 2 Redshank [Slaynes Lane].

Osberton - 150 Pink-footed Geese [over north-west in two skeins of 90 and 60, 12:05]; also female Merlin.

Bulwell - 2 Raven [on the Blenheim industrial site, midday].

Besthorpe NR - 2 TUNDRA BEAN GEESE [in fields just north of Meering Marsh loosely associated with large feral goose flock, late morning to 14:05 then flew south-west]; also 2 Pink-footed Geese, 3 Whooper Swan.

Netherfield - CASPIAN GULL [2nd-winter], Caspian x Herring Gull [1st-winter Dutch colour ringed], Yellow-legged Gull [Enva Recycling Centre]; also c.120 Pink-footed Geese [over heading west, 11:10].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - c.36 Whooper Swan [11 flew over north-west 08:54, 24 on Conneries Pond 10:02, 26 Conneries Pond 14:08 then flew off high over Church Pond, 15:00], SIBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF [possibly two, from the river path near Barton Island, 14:50], BEARDED TIT [Clifton Pit reed-bed, 15:15-20], Smew and CASPIAN GULL [again Clifton Pit].

Burton Joyce - 6 Whooper Swan [in Trentside fields on the Shelford side then flew West, 15:04].

Bilborough - 3 Ring-necked Parakeet [over heading towards Wollaton late afternoon].

Brinsley - Pink-footed Geese [skein over heading west this lunchtime].

Retford - 170 Pink-footed Geese [over heading north-west, 11:50].

Bilsthorpe - c.300 Pink-footed Geese [over pig fields by A614 heading west north west, 11:35].

Lambley/Lowdham - Red Kite [over Lambley Road].

Oxton - Merlin [seen briefly just after dawn flying across farmland between Oxton and Southwell]; also Red Kite, Little owl heard.

Langford Lowfields - 2 Ring-necked Duck [female type still on west side of Phase 2 viewed from the Seasonal Trail mid-afternoon], Great Northern Diver [juvenile again on Deep Water Pit].

Idle Washlands - 13 Black-tailed Godwit, 35 Dunlin [Slaynes Lane], 22 Dunlin, 38 Snipe, Ruff [Hagg Lane Flash].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - CASPIAN GULL [adult], Great White Egret, Smew [redhead], BEARDED TIT [still Clifton Pit], 2 Pintail [Coneries, this morning]; also a count of 75 Goosander this evening.

King's Mill Reservoir - Water Rail, Golden Plover, 21 Common Snipe, c.10 Siskin; also 2,500+ BH Gull into roost most evenings including Leucistic BH Gull - first detected Feb '20 - seen on 3 days recently.

Hoveringham - Green Sandpiper [Tipping Pond], Stonechat [Sailing Lake].

Egmanton - 5 Little Egret [in field to the east of the village, 09:30].

Monday 13th December

Attenborough Nature Reserve - CASPIAN GULL [adult], 2 Pintail, Smew [redhead], BEARDED TIT [Clifton Pit, this morning].

Langford Lowfields - 2 Ring-necked Duck [female type on west side of Phase 2, 10:44 at least], Great Northern Diver [back on the Deep Water Pit].

Lound [Idle Valley Nature Reserve] - MEDITERRANEAN GULL [adult winter, Neatholme Scrape, late afternoon]; also murmuration of c.10,000 Starling, 4 Goosander [2 pairs, Bellmoor Lake].

Hoveringham - CASPIAN GULL, 3 Yellow-legged Gull [Railway Pit roost].

Clipstone Forest - Peregrine [female, on top of pylon 12:21].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - adult CASPIAN GULL, Smew [redhead, still Clifton Pit, late afternoon], BEARDED TIT [heard], 2 Great White Egret [this morning].

Netherfield Lagoons - 2 BEARDED TIT [male/female, along the Causeway between the Slurry Lagoon and Deep Pit, then flew into the Deep Pit reedbed 10:20].
