This page will be updated on a daily basis, to provide a convenient news service to scarce & rare birds found within the County Nottinghamshire.

The Sightings page and @Nottsbirders Twitter feed are intended to alert birders to scarcer species that they might be interested in seeing within the County.

Records of more common species are still very important, but should preferably be submitted to the county Recorder Andy Hall. These records will then be added to the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers data-base, to be included in the monthly Newsletter and Annual Reports.

None of these reports have been verified or checked by the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers' Records Committee.

Records of certain species will not appear here during the breeding season - but please send in your reports regardless.

Netherfield Lagoons - 2 Marsh Harrier [adult male and female showing well, 13:00].

Thursday 30th July

Attenborough Nature Reserve - [16:30 - 18:00] Bittern [1 seen very briefly Clifton Pit, as it flew between reedpens to the RHS of the Tower Hide], Greenshank, 2 Common Sandpiper and Common Snipe [Clifton Pit,on spit island], 11 Little Egret [Clifton Pit] and Green Sandpiper [Church pond corner].

Barton-in-Fabis - Turtle Dove [still purring and showing around the Churchyard/Walled Garden 16:55 at least].

Besthorpe NWT - 2 Turtle Dove and 1 Green Sandpiper [Meering], Garganey, 2 Mandarin, Turtle Dove and 3 Green Sandpiper [Mons Pool].

Collingham Lakes - Sanderling [Ferry Lane Lake, in South/West corner 10:00] also 2 Common Sandpiper.

Newark Sugar Factory - 5 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper and 1 Willow Tit.

Wednesday 29th July

Barton-in-Fabis - Turtle Dove [purring male, from the walled garden 19:00, but more elusive this evening].

Netherfield Lagoons - 2 Marsh Harrier [both male and juvenile over the reed-bed 16:40, a food pass, then dropped into the reeds. Male then flew off 18:00].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Greenshank, Green Sandpiper and Common Sandpiper [Clifton pit this evening] and Green Sandpiper [Church Pond].

Kilvington Lakes - 32 Yellow-legged Gull [reported on East Lake and North lake] also 8 Black-tailed Godwit [west lake mid morning at least].

The Welbeck Raptor Watchpoint - Honey Buzzard [adult 11:40-11:50, good view with tail bars/length/width, and even some head colour seen] also Marsh Tit and 4 Mandarin.

Watnall Woods - Willow Tit [on feeders this morning].

Oxton - Little Owl [on telegraph pole on the Oxton bypass, 05:45].

Tuesday 28th July

Barton-in-Fabis - Turtle Dove [still this evening, in the walled garden, 19:00].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - 3 Black-tailed Godwit [briefly on Clifton Pit this evening].

Besthorpe NWT - Garganey [still this evening on Mons Pool] also 3 Curlew and 3 Common Sandpiper.

Idle Valley Nature Reserve [Lound] – Pectoral Sandpiper [adult, present Neatholme Fen from 11:40 to 16:38 at least. initially on mud in front of screen then flushed to western shore], also 1 Dunlin, 2 Yellow-legged Gull [Neatholme Fen], Green Sandpiper [southern end of Neatholme Scrape], Ruff, 2 Common Redshank, 5 Little Egret and 1 Red-crested Pochard [Chainbridge NR Scrape, East].

RSPB Langford Lowfields - 2 Yellow-legged Gull [with lesser black-backs on Phase 2, from viewing screen].

Cotham Flash - 1 Green Sandpiper and 1 Common Sandpiper.

Monday 27th July

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Turnstone [still present on Clifton Pit this evening] also Greenshank [briefly on the river before flying over towards Clifton].

Calverton - 1 Common Redshank and 30+ Swift [over Springwater area, this evening].

Barton-in-Fabis - Turtle Dove [early evening, in the Churchyard/walled garden].

Spalford - 6 Yellow-legged Gull [4 ads, 1s and juv in pig field this afternoon], also 170+LBB, 2 Herring 180+BH 2 Common Gull and Hobby through East.

Cotham Flash - 1 Green Sandpiper and 1 Common Sandpiper.

Kilvington Lakes - one colour-ringed Little Egret.

Sunday 26th July

Besthorpe NWT - Garganey [this evening on Mons Pool] also Greenshank and 2 Turtle Dove.

Hagg Lane Flash - Turtle Dove [on wires], 3 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Egyptian Geese and Little Egret.

Brinsley Flash - 8 Whimbrel [flew over west, 10:15].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Turnstone [Church Pond, 08:30, then relocating to Clifton Pit 18:00 at least], Garganey [eclipse drk, Clifton Pit 18:00 at least], Black-tailed Godwit [Tween, 11:20 then Clifton Pit, 15:00], Greenshank and Common Sandpiper [Clifton Pit] and 8 Little Egret.

Netherfield Lagoons - Marsh Harrier [juvenile on the Slurry Lagoon this morning, taking a drink at the water’s edge before flying back to drop into the reeds] also 2 Hobby.

Hagg Lane Flash- Little Gull [adult, flew West], Wood Sandpiper, 2 Turtle Dove, 2 Dunlin, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Ringed Plover and 2 Little Ringed Plover and 1 Green Sandpiper.

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Turnstone [still present on Clifton Pit, this morning] also Greenshank, Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, Little Ringed Plover and adult Yellow-legged Gull [all Clifon Pit].

Barton-in-Fabis - Turtle Dove [still showing well in the village Church yard/walled garden].

Friday 24th July

Idle Valley Nature Reserve [Lound] – Sanderling [summer plumage bird, Neatholme Scrape], 7 Ruff [Chainbridge NR Scrape, West], 2 Dunlin, 2 juv Ringed Plover, 5 Red-crested Pochard including 2 juveniles and 2 Little Egret [Chainbridge NR Scrape, East], Turtle Dove [on wires opposite Neatholme Fen], Peregrine, 3 adult & 4 juv Little Ringed Plover [Tiln North, Restoration Area], 3 Little Egret and 4 Green Sandpiper [Neatholme Pit], 8 Yellow-legged Gull, 8 Common Tern including 3 juvs, Green Sandpiper and 5 Little Egret [Neatholme Fen].

Thursday 23rd July

Barton-in-Fabis - Turtle Dove [Still showing well in the village Church yard/walled garden, early evening].

Idle Valley Nature Reserve [Lound] – 4 Black-tailed Godwit [Chainbridge NR Scrape, 11:35] and up to 9 Green Sandpiper [noted at various locations, Neatholme Area]

Spalford - 3 Yellow-legged Gull [adult and 2, 1s on the pig fields, this afternoon] also 70 LBB, 40 BH Gull, Turtle Dove, 2 Grey Partridge and a single Common Sandpiper [Spalford Pit].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Turnstone, Greenshank, 2 Dunlin, 5 Common Redshank and Yellow-legged Gull [Clifton Pit, this afternoon].

Wednesday 22nd July

Gedling Country Park - Short-eared Owl [at the North end this evening].

Hagg Lane Flash - 3 Turtle Dove [over early evening], 1 Greenshank, 5 Black-tailed Godwit and Green Sandpiper.

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Turnstone [Clifton Pit, Gull Island this afternoon] also Garganey [eclipse drk], Greenshank, 2 Dunlin and ad Yellow-legged Gull.

Spalford - 2 Yellow-legged Gull [2 adults, 1 Spalford Pit and 1 pig fields this afternoon] also 20 LBB’s, Common Gull and Little Owl.

Gedling Country Park - Short-eared Owl [showing well on the slope by the solar panels 20:54].

Barton-in-Fabis - Turtle Dove [purring male, favoring the walled garden next to the village Church Yard], also Grasshopper Warbler [reeling this evening, Branshill Ponds].

Holme Pierrepont - Cuckoo [Blotts Pit, this evening].

Church Warsop - Whimbrel [South-West over Day Street 18:20].

East leake Quarry - 5 Little Ringed Plover, 4 Green Sandpiper, Little Egret and 2 Egyptian Geese.

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Garganey [eclipse drk] and Yellow–legged Gull [both, Clifton Pit].

Besthorpe NWT - 4 Turtle Dove [Meering], Black-tailed Godwit and 2 Green Sandpiper [Mons Pool].

RSPB Langford Lowfields - Black-tailed Godwit [viewable from the eastern Cromwell Trail and Beach Hut, this morning] also 5 Green Sandpiper, Little Ringed Plover, Common Sandpiper, Common Redshank.

Monday 20th July

Spalford Pit - Yellow-legged Gull [adult, late evening].

Holme Pierrepont - Whimbrel [flew West thru Blotts Pit, 18:50].

Barton-in-Fabis - Turtle Dove [Purring male, again this evening]. Also Hobby, 3 Juv Common Buzzard [Branshill Wood] and 2 Yellow Wagtail.

Hagg Lane Flash - Turtle Dove, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 6 Little Egret and 2 Egyptian Geese.

RSPB Langford Lowfields - 4 Black-tailed Godwit [Phase 2 this afternoon, looking south from viewing screen] also Common Redshank [Phase 1, this morning].

Bennerley Marsh - 1 Greenshank and 1 Common Sandpiper.

Netherfield Lagoons - Bittern [again on the Slurry Lagoon, this afternoon] also Hobby.

Sunday 19th July

The Welbeck Raptor Watchpoint - 2 Goshawk [pair, male in view for 10-15 mins at about 100ft altitude patrolling up & down the lake. Female in view for about 15 seconds, 5ft above the field coming towards the Watchpoint, 16:00].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Garganey [eclipse drk, Clifton Pit], 1 Dunlin, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Common Sandpiper, 7 Little Egret and adult Yellow-legged Gull [all Clifton Pit] also 2 Common Sandpiper [Sailing Lake].

Barton-in-Fabis - Turtle Dove ["purring" male this afternoon].

Colwick Park - Black Tern [sub adult, over the Trout Lake 09:45 then headed South].

Besthorpe NWT - Wood Sandpiper [again on Mons Pool this morning] also Black-tailed Godwit and Common Sandpiper.

Bentinck Pit Top - Common Sandpiper, 3 Little Ringed Plover and Garden Warbler.

Cropwell Bishop - Red Kite [low over the village this afternoon].

Besthorpe NWT - Wood Sandpiper [this morning on Mons Pool with Lapwings, bird has damaged right leg].

Cotham tip - Red Kite [reported as been present all week at this location].

Hucknall - Tree Sparrow [again on garden feeders].

Friday 17th July

Gedling Country Park - Short-eared Owl [on the South side, 06:43 and again early evening].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Black Tern [moulting adult, Clifton Pit 08:15], Garganey [eclipse drk, Clifton Pit 13:00], Yellow-legged Gull [adult, Tween Pond this afternoon] also 3 Dunlin, Greenshank and 2 Black-tailed Godwit [all Clifton Pit, this afternoon].

Hagg Lane Flash - 3 Greenshank, 2 Common Redshank, Dunlin, Little Ringed Plover, 100 Lapwing.

Newington South Quarry - Whooper Swan [well settled, feeding 12:00, oblivious of active gravel pit moving gravel trucks].

Holme Pierrepont - Black-tailed Godwit [Blotts Pit, this evening].

RSPB Langford Lowfields - 11 Black-tailed Godwit [phase 2, this afternoon].

Spalford Pit - Red-crested Pochard [moulting drk this afternoon] also Common Redshank, 2 juv Yellow Wagtail, 3 Little Egret and a Hobby.

Kilvington Lakes - Quail [singing again from field to south-west of North Lake, this morning] also 1 Yellow-legged Gull and Black-tailed Godwit [this evening].

Monday 13th July

Newark - A Wholly unconfirmed report of a possible Albatross Sp! on the River Trent by the Great North Road Bridge this evening. Described as huge, black back, yellow bill and smudge around eye. Bird has been looked for but no sign!

Sunday 12th July

RSPB Langford Lowfields - 21 Oystercatcher [on Phase 2, this evening].

Collingham Pits - Yellow-legged Gull [adult, this evening on the Silt Lagoon].

Bennerley Marsh - Greenshank and 2 Little Ringed Plover.

Kilvington Lakes - Quail [singing male still from field adjacent to North Lake 14:30] also 3 Ruff [on the West lake] and 3 Yellow-legged Gull [East Lake].

Calverton - Little Ringed Plover [on Moor Lane and Springwater Water treatment works this afternoon].

Saturday 11th July

Retford - Mediterranean Gull [adult summer, roosting with other gulls on the small island at Bellmoor Lake, 15:45 till 16:07 then flew south]. Also, adult Yellow-legged Gull on same island.

Besthorpe NWT - Hobby [hawking dragonflies over Mons Pool] and Siskin over. Curlew [flew South, 16:00].

Kilvington Lakes - Quail [male singing from field adjacent to / SW of North Lake, 08:20 and again between 14:25 and 15:00] also 7 Little Egret, 2 Yellow-legged Gull [East Lake] and Garden Warbler [in full song in the hedgerow on the north side of the lane].

Norwell Woodhouse - Red Kite [over village, 13:00].

Radcliffe on Trent - Red Kite [late morning, over The Green / Holme Lane].

Holme Pierrepont - Whimbrel [Blotts Pit, 07:55 then flew west], Curlew, Ringed Plover and 2 Juv Peregrine [All Blotts this morning]. Black-tailed Godwit [Blotts Pit, 13:35] also Hobby [A52/Blotts Pit, this afternoon].

Besthorpe NWT - 1 Black-tailed Godwit [Meering Marsh, this evening], 2 Green Sandpiper [Mons Pool], 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Green Sandpiper [Collingham Silt Pond].

Kilvington Lakes - 10 Little Egret, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Dunlin, 1 Common Sandpiper and 2 Yellow-legged Gull.

Idle Valley Nature Reserve [Lound] – 60+ Larger Gulls including at least one Yellow–legged Gull [Neatholme Fen], 1 Green Sandpiper [Neathome Scrape], 1 Ruff [Walters Lane Pit].

Holme Pierrepont - 7 Black-tailed Godwit [Blotts Pit, 17:40]. Also Cuckoo [singing male].

Radcliffe on Trent – Red Kite [over houses in area just south of A52 on entering village, about 13:45].

Kilvington Lakes - Quail [singing male this morning, near North Lake. Please keep to public rights of way].

Attenborough Nature Reserve - 2 Garganey [eclipse pair,Clifton Pit from Tower Hide, 06:00], 22 Black-tailed Godwit [circled Clifton Pit and flew off towards Beeston, 06:30] also 11 Little Egret, Common Redshank [Clifton Pit] 13 Red-crested Pochard [Church Pond] and Cuckoo.

Tuesday 7th July

Holme Pierrepont - 2 Black-tailed Godwit [Blotts Pit this evening].

Attenborough Nature Reserve – 2 Lesser Whitethroat [Tower Hide path], 11 Little Egret [Clifton Pit] , 4 Little Ringed Plover [this evening, NW corner of Church Pond],1 Hobby [NW corner of Conneries].

Warsop - Red Kite [SSW over Lea Road, 14:30].

Halam - Hobby [around most of afternoon].

RSPB Langford Lowfields - 4 Avocet [have successfully fledged and are now starting to get more mobile], 17 Black-tailed Godwit [flew South over Phase 1 this evening] also reeling Grasshopper Warbler. 10 Black-tailed Godwit and 3 Green Sandpiper [phase 3 this morning] and 5 Green sands [on phase 1].

Idle Valley Nature Reserve [Lound] - 9 Ruff [including 1 juv and 8 moulting males], 3 Black-tailed Godwit, 50+ Lapwing [Walters Lane Pit], Shelduck [pair with 4 ducklings], 2 Little Ringed Plover, Common Redshank and 2 Stock Dove [Tiln North, Restoration Area], 100+ Lapwing and 1 Dunlin [Chainbridge NR Scrape, East].

Skegby trail - Lesser Whitethroat, Tree Sparrow Green Woodpecker with young and Barn Owl [06:00 - 08:00].

Sunday 5th July

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Garganey [eclipse drk, Clifton Pit 18:00] and Black-tailed Godwit [Clifton Pit, 18:30].

Holme Pierrepont -9 Black-tailed Godwit [flew south thru Blotts Pit, 10:30] Marsh Harrier [male, high north/west over Blotts/A52 Pit, 14:00], Cuckoo [singing male Blotts Pit, 12:30 - 14:30 and again 16:20 - 17:00], 2 Hobby, Water Rail, Ringed Plover and 7+Little Ringed Plover [including 3 Juvs].

Bennerley Marsh - 2 Little Ringed Plover , 1 Little Egret , 3 Egyptian Geese and Oystercatcher.

Bulcote - Grasshopper Warbler [reeling male, Bulcote Ponds, 07:00].

Idle Valley Nature Reserve [Lound] - Black Tern [from Chainbridge Lane, 07:20 - 08:30 at least], 3 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 moulting Ruff , c 35 Lapwing, 3 Little Ringed Plover , 2 Llittle Egret [Chainbridge Lane].

Hoveringham - Red Kite [flew east over the Railway Pit, 18:45].

Idle Valley Nature Reserve [Lound] - 4 adult male Ruff, 6 Oystercatcher and 1 Black-tailed Godwit [Walters Lane Pit], 2 Hobby and female Cuckoo [Clayworth Common], Green Sandpiper, 4 Common Tern and 4 Little Egrets [Neatholme Scrape]. 5 adult and 1 3rd year Yellow-legged Gull, single male Cuckoo, 4 Oystercatcher, 3 Little Ringed Plover and 2 Ringed Plover [Neatholme Fen], 2 Common Redshank, 4 Ringed Plover, 3 Little Ringed Plover, 3 Common Tern and 2 Little Egrets [Chainbridge NR Scrape].

Girton - Turtle Dove [heard purring, near the Sailing Pit].

Spalford - Yellow-legged Gull [adult, on the Pig fields].

Hucknall - Tree Sparrow [adult in garden with juveniles].

Friday 3rd July

Collingham Pits - Curlew, 3 Green Sandpiper, 133 Lapwing and 4 Oystercatcher this evening

Hucknall - Red Kite - [flying over Woodlane, 17:35].

Sturton-le-Steeple - Spotted Flycatcher [feeding in birch along North Street, 13:20].

RSPB Langford Lowfields - 2 Green Sandpiper [from new viewing screen] also Roe Deer with fawn this morning.

Thursday 2nd July

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Great White Egret [flew over the Delta heading South, towards nature centre 11:55]. Also 2 Juv and ringed adult Little Egret [this evening, Clifton Pit].

Spalford Pit - Green Sandpiper, 3 Oystercatcher, Little Egret, 2 Yellow Wagtail, 11 Pied Wagtail, 5 Stock Dove. 2s Common Gull [Spalford Pig fields].

Clifton - Peregrine [male, low over Clifton estate this morning].

Holme Pierrepont - Ruff [Blotts Pit, this morning].

Wednesday 1st July

Attenborough Nature Reserve - Ruff [Clifton Pit, 18:00] also Ringed Plover.

RSPB Beckingham - 2 Green Sandpiper [Feeding on wet scrapes in first two fields from Willow Works].

West Bridgford - Red Kite [over Compton Acres, 15:28].

Newark - Red Kite [over Newark golf course this afternoon].
