This page will be updated on a daily basis, to provide a convenient news service to scarce & rare birds found within the County Nottinghamshire.
The Sightings page and @Nottsbirders Twitter feed are intended to alert birders to scarcer species that they might be interested in seeing within the County.
Records of more common species are still very important, but should preferably be submitted to the county Recorder Andy Hall. These records will then be added to the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers data-base, to be included in the monthly Newsletter and Annual Reports.
None of these reports have been verified or checked by the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers' Records Committee.
Records of certain species will not appear here during the breeding season - but please send in your reports regardless.

Lound [Idle Valley Nature Reserve] - 53 Whooper Swan [Clayworth Common], 5 Ruff [Chainbridge Pit], 15 Ringed Plover, 3 Common Snipe and a Barn Owl [Tiln North, Restoration Area].
RSPB Langford Lowfields - Marsh Harrier [female, hunting over Phase 2] and a Stonechat [male, on Phase 1 this afternoon].
Idle Valley Nature Reserve - Firecrest [Bellmore lake, noted along path heading north between wooden footbridge and the four way path junction 14:00, and was then relocated here 14:45].

Idle Washlands - Hen Harrier [ringtail, just West of Misson along Slaynes Lane, this morning], 7 Whooper Swan [2 ad, 5 juv, flew over Hagg Lane Flash from the East and landed on Newington flash, South Yorks], Dunlin, 2 Ringed Plover and 14 Common Redshank [Hagg Lane Flash].
Bunny - Stonechat [male,by the brook on Bunny Moor] 5 Little Egrets and 100 Fieldfare nearby and flock of Yellowhammer [on stubble field on the south side of Bunny Woods].

Netherfield Lagoons - 2 Ring-necked Parakeet [flew over the reserve from Carlton towards Holme Pierrepont, calling loudly. About an hour later they flew back again towards Carlton].

Netherfield Lagoons - 2 Stonechat, still and Chiffchaff [by the side of the path leading to the entrance bridge, 16:00].
Cotham - 1w Glaucous Gull [on the landfill this afternoon].
South Muskham - Smew [redhead, late afternoon at least, on the largest of the A1 Pits]. Also adult Mediterranean Gull and 3 Yellow-legged Gull [in the gull roost] and 15 Goldeneye.
Welbeck Raptor Watchpoint - Goshawk [13:00].
Holme Pierrepont - Smew [redhead, Skylarks Works Pond. Hiding until 12.30, when it emerged from reeds-SW corner. Also Yellow-legged Gull and Oystercatcher [Blotts Pit].
Eakring - Garganey [drk, still present on Eakring Flash]. Also 2 Common Shelduck.
Lound [Idle Valley Nature Reserve] - 3 Bewick's and 33 Whooper Swan [Clayworth Common, this morning], 2 Stonechat [along the river, 100m south of neatholme lane] and Peregrine.
Skegby Trail - Red Kite [flew over to the south-east, 11:00] Also c25 Redwing, c20 Fieldfare and 2 Yellowhammer.
Meden vale - Chiffchaff [Meden Vale Bottoms NR].
Rufford Country Park - 3 Hawfinch [in flight near main car-park at 09:00]. Also 11 Goosander and Kingfisher.

Girton Pits - Great Norther Diver [Juv, still on the A1133 Pit, 14:15 at least] and 2 Eurasian White-fronted Geese [still in the field at the end of the Sailing Club access road, early afternoon].
Collingham Pits - 7 Curlew, Green Sandpiper and Common Redshank [on silt lagoon, this morning].
Besthorpe NWT - 3 Common Redshank [Mons Pool].
Gringley Carr - 30+ Tree Sparrow and 100+ fieldfare.
Holme Pierrepont - Smew [redhead, still on Works Pond, 10:20].
Mapperley - Raven [over Duncan Macmillan House, heading south west, 10:00].
Rufford Country Park - 2 Ring-necked Parakeet [flew over calling this morning]. Also 3+ Hawfinch [Lime Tree Avenue, near the Abbey 08:20 to 08:30] and Lesser Spotted Woodpecker [drilling close to the beech wood glade, some 50 metres before the Ice House, 09:30].

Kings Mill Reservoir - 1w Little Gull and 2w Caspian Gull [in the gull roost, this evening].
Wollaton Park - Raven [being mobbed by Jackdaws near the Parkside entrance, 15:00].
Newington - 15 Common Redshank, 67 Teal, 156 Wigeon and 5 Shelduck [HaggLane Flash].
Rufford Country Park - 2 Ring-necked Parakeet [14:30 but no further details]. Also 1 Hawfinch [Lime Tree Avenue, near the Abbey 10:30]
Budby Common - 20 Brambling [in a mixed flock of finches, largely chaffinch, around the usual southern edge of the corn Stubble Field, this morning]. Also a good sized flock of yellowhammer [in the field north of the corn stubble field] and c10 Lesser Redpoll [south east apex of the triangle].
